Tips, Tricks and Tools To Help You Sing!

What to expect on the first day of voice lessons?

Im planning on taking voice lessons. I was just wondering what to expect? Do i have to sing a song or something so she can hear my voice? lol ya i’m clueless when it comes to this so please help!

thanks in advance :]

It’s been a bloody long time since I last took singin’ lessons, hon, but from what I can remember, to kick off with, the teacher’ll wanna know what yer range is- (they’ll most likely find this out, usin’ a piano. They’ll play various low and high notes, in order to find out what the lowest and the highest ya can sing are, then, they’ll put you into a vocal range catagory- (as a girl, you’ll be a Soprano, a Mezzo-soprano, an Alto or a Contralto- if yer quite young, I suspect you’ll be more in Soprano or Mezzo-soprano territory than Alto or Contralto country!) Secondly, the teacher’ll teach ya a few breathin’ techniques, teach ya a few vocal exercises, in order to warm yer voice up before ya sing- (‘doh-ray-me-fah-soh-la-ti-doh’, the vowel sounds, ‘A, E, I, O, U’, and melodic vocal sounds such as ‘Ahs’, ‘Oos’ and ‘Ees’ are the usual, run-of-the-mill vocal sounds used when warmin’ the voice up!) Thirdly, the teacher’ll then pick a song to work on, (or, more likely than not, get YOU to pick a song ya wanna work on), adapt the key of the song, (if necessary), then, get ya to sing that song, usin’ the techniques you’ve been taught so far. That’s about all I can remember, really, I’m afraid, hon, (‘cos, like I told ya, it was a BLOODY long time ago that I took singin’ lessons!) I wish you all the luck in the world with yer first lesson. Peace and love! Be lucky! :)
