I have never sang once. But I want to learn. I don't have money for lessons. I want to know if there is a way to learn that doesn't cost much money or no money at all. I write a lot of songs. I want to be able to sing like Tim McIlrath of Rise Against and Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace or both. There are many influences that I would like to sound like. I write a lot of songs that seem would sound really good with a bit of screaming that Tim does.
I know you said that you don't have money for lessons, but the best way to learn how to sing is to learn from someone who is trained to teach voice. This way, they can help you learn so that you don't hurt yourself. The vocal chords are fragile and you should train yourself to sing in a healthy way before you try anything like belting.
