Would it be a bad idea to take vocal lessons at age 18?

9

It’s almost my birthday, it’s on the 28th, and I’m wondering if I can take vocal lessons at that age despite not having much of vocal training before. Basically the question here is, is it ever too late to learn how to sing?

Well it’s not to late if you want singing to be just a hobbie or something you do on the weekends. BUT if you want singing to be a main career then I would say it may be a little late! But this is your decision so good luck and hope I helped! Oh and never forget "It’s never to late to pursuit your dreams!"

No, if singing is what you want then go for it.. Theres a contestant this year on American Idol who hasn’t taken a vocal lesson in his life, its never too late to learn.

Not at all. I’ve had students start at all ages. Many people don’t start formal lessons until they are your age. Some teachers don’t even work with people younger than about 16. Find a good teacher and have fun!

No. I took my first vocal lesson at the age of 32. It also depends what you are going for. I wanted to learn how to use my diaphragm better. I’m 44 now. If you are trying to develop your ear though, then I always suggest getting a Hammond organ. Of course now you can get a plug in of a Hammond for your computer. On the organ there are 9 draw bars that can be pulled out in any combination to tailor the over tones of a note(s). To develop your sense of melody there is no better tool than this system. I encourage you to check out like the Hammond FAQ website if not just for a neat piece of history about this amazing instrument and the man who made it. Hammond invented the synchronous motor found in all electric clocks with hands, and spring reverb, but the Hammond tone wheel organ is heard in more places than you’d ever realize.
