The award-winning Westchester Chordsmen Chorus announced today a new and no cost program, Learn to Sing, for men in Westchester county who have a song in their heart and can carry a tune, but who have often wanted to sing much better, and with much more confidence.

The plan is open to males ages 16 and older singing knowledge is valuable but not essential. And, you do not have to read music either. Discover to Sing attributes ten hours of free of charge voice development taught by the Chordsmen director and associate directors. The two-hour classes start Monday, May possibly 5, 2008, and for five consecutive weeks, participants will discover the fundamentals of singing and harmony. For the final session and graduation, students will perform with the award-winning Westchester Chordsmen.

In the course of those five weeks, aspiring singers will understand two songs, practicing and performing them individually and in quartets. Lessons will consist of warm-up sessions, instruction, break-out groups for learning and fine-tuning musical parts. Class supplies consist of free of charge music, instructional hand-outs and free practice audio files on CDs. In addition, participants will have a Chordsmen member as a mentor for assistance and guidance.

“We really like to sing and we want to share our passion with the community,” mentioned Keith Harris, Westchester Chordsmen director. “This is our way to say thank you for 55 years of assistance and offer this terrific chance for males who really like to sing.”

Founded in 1952, the Westchester Chordsmen Chorus is the only Westchester Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and is at the moment ranked #27 out of 800 choruses all through the globe. The Chordsmen have 85 members from Westchester County, Western Connecticut and Extended Island who range in ages from 20 to 82. Their musical repertoire extends beyond barbershop roots and includes Broadway show-tunes, doo-wop, traditional, gospel and modern songs (and Western tunes) arranged in 4-part harmony for tenor, lead, baritone and bass singers.
