I'm terrible and I'm the type of person that definitely needs lessons, but is it possible that other people don't need them?
Check out my Y!A profile to hear my singing if you'd like. I tried to post the link up but the 999 error keeps popping up.
Tell me what I need to improve on and all that good stuff. Harsh criticism would be much appreciated.
Do I suck at singing though?
Pop/Punk, Indie, Ascoutic and whatnot is my definition of good singing.
It depends on your goals and your definition of "good singer". Do you want to cut a hip hop album, join the opera, or just be in the local playhouse production of The Music Man? There are people that I consider good singers that have never had a voice lesson. There are certainly people who have made it famous who are not good technical singers.
No matter what your current skill level, there are lots of different "Voice Lessons" you can take that will make you a BETTER singer. Look to the local community college or the yellow pages to start. Be sure to interview the instructor and ask them what should you expect to gain from their lesson plan.
Bottom line… as long as you keep singing (no matter how good or bad you are) you will always be better off.
