I want to learn how to sing because I always wanted to learn how, I want to improve my breathing technique, and I want to eventually be good enough to join the choir. All of the other people who sign up for the class are in a high school with a music based curriculum.
If you enjoy it, have the time and money for it, by all means take lessons. There is nothing wrong with that.
