Firstly I don’t want to be offensive but….. are you kidding?
You don’t need to sing in this day an age. I haven’t heard any pop star SING for the last 10 years or so. Ha ha.
Seriously though. From listening to my voice in church I can’t sing for toffee but I know how you can get started improving your voice.
Get a song that you like and sing along to it. I know what you are thinking. "duh!" but hear me out. Try and make your voice match the pitch and sound of the one in the song. Try doing all the little effects, like going up and down fast or whatever the singer is doing.
Secondly get that song, or another, and hum to the music. Not the singer but the actual tune coming from the music. What you are looking for is make your voice sound just like an echo of the song from your mp3 or cd or whatever. Like when you have a tv on in another room on the same channel as the one in your room. You’ll have your voice doing things you would never have thought off before.
A third way is to get a small keyboard or a toy xylophone or anything like an instrument you have lying around and do the old so fa le to da whatever it is on it. I mean like press the note C and try and copy it with your voice. You could just say "C". Then press D and match it and so on up the scale. Try to remember what notes go with what sound. I guess if you could get sheet music of a scale and you write the letters of the notes beside them you would eventually be able to sing sheet music!
Try and see how high and how low you can go without coughing and clutching at your throat in pain.
Have fun.
