I’ve been in choir for 8 years, that’s about it. I plan on taking private vocal lessons once a week. How long will I see improvement and is 16 too late of an age to start learning to sing and possibly turn it into a career?
Vocal growth is different for everyone. Some people catch on fast and others take more time. It all depends on your voice type and how fast you latch onto the techniques.
As far as turning your voice into a career path, 16 is a fine age to start, but you will have to work swiftly. Most contenders that you would be up against for jobs may have had longer training. However, quantity of training in no way out weights quality. If you work hard and study, you have PLENTY of time to make a career out of your vocal talents.
BTW, being in choir for 8 years is a big plus, you already know more than you probably think you do.
Best of luck!
