my voice is okay but i don’t know how to describe the tone i think i’m a bit flat or it’s just that i’m nasally even though i don’t sing through my nose, i’ve tried warm ups or blah blah blah, but they only effect slightly. It not majorly noticeable but i know that i can improve. THANK YOOOOU! ^_^
Try to make the inside of your mouth as open as possible when you sing. If you don’t know what your soft palate is, you can feel it by trying to make yourself yawn. It’s what pulls up to give you that stretchy feeling when you yawn. You should lift your soft palate as high as you can to make a lot of space in your mouth.
Make sure your jaw is relaxed and pulled back. Put your fingers on either side of your head right in front of your ears. Move your jaw up and down; you should be able to feel when your jaw comes out of its socket in order to open really wide. You shouldn’t open your mouth so wide that the jaw leaves the socket. However, you can open your mouth more and not have the jaw come out of socket if you pull your jaw back towards your spine. This is difficult to explain with words, so just experiment with it.
For the best tone quality, you want to make the space in your mouth as vertical as possible. Horizontal space is what give the voice the "babyish nasally sound."
Also, try not to make your tone quality "dark." This is difficult to explain with words, but I’ll try. A lot of people try to do this to get rid of the babyish sound, but it doesn’t help and often makes things worse. When you sing, try to make your tone quality as "bright" and "spinny" as possible. This is done by putting the sound of your voice as far forward in your mouth as possible. If it’s done correctly, you probably will feel the sound coming out of your cheeks, and for really high notes, it won’t feel like you’re making the sound at all, almost like it’s coming from somewhere in the space above your head.
Listen to opera. They get it right. Natalie Dessay and Birgit Nilsson are two of my favorites.
If you really want to learn to sing well, you should take voice lessons. It’s a lot of fun!
