Tips, Tricks and Tools To Help You Sing!

How hard is it to sing (well) in a foreign language?

I know some vocalists sing songs with lyrics that are in a foreign language that they don’t actually speak. How hard is this to learn how to do, like with the pronunciation and all being a bit different?

I’ve heard some native Japanese singers sing English-language songs and the result was…let’s say, less than perfect? I’m assuming the reverse would be true, if someone who only spoke English tried to sing in Japanese, it would sound odd to a native Japanese speaker.

Thanks.

It depends on how well the song is put into simple phonics. (Japanese is actually easier to do; everything is spelled phonetically, although some vowel sounds are a little bit different.) If you learn the song and listen to other songs in that language, it’s very simple.

The reason the Japanese singer may sound a little odd in English is that the letter "l" does not exist in Japanese. The closest sound they have is "ru", so "bloom" would come out "broom".
(Very simplified.)
