Neither. Your head voice is automatic. Everyone has a transition area in their voice where the chest voice (which is a darker, lower sound) moves into the head voice. When you feel that break in the voice (passaggio), you are moving into head voice. It doesn't have to be taught. Try singing from the bottom of your range to the upper part of your range. That upper part of your range is your head voice.
