1) Find a qualified voice teacher. You’ll progress much faster, shave years off the time, and spare yourself a lot of frustration, and avoid the possibility of painful and expensive surgery that comes from polyps and nodes on the vocal cords. Most reputable teachers have full or partial scholarship programs or work-study if finances are a problem. Even if you don’t want to be a professional, there are physical and mental benefits to singing well, and for every $1 invested in lessons, there is an average $1.72 return.
2) Voice teachers take ordinary people and teach them to sing. Talent is unconsciously-acquired skill. Everyone else acquires the skill consciously.
3) Sorry, I don’t know who that is.
4) A website, CD, DVD, video, or any other one-way form of instruction is dangerous. You can get repetitive stress on your vocal cords, too, and a prerecorded lesson cannot listen to you and correct your technique. Even with the best possible scenario, at some point you’re going to misunderstand or misinterpret the instructions. Jordin Sparks had uncontrolled bleeding from her vocal cords and I’m sure you do not want that to happen to you. That requires a hospital emergency room visit at a minimum, and you will have spent far more money than you would have spent on lessons in the first place.
