Is there a way to teach yourself to sing notes that seem to be out of your range? I want to learn to sing high notes, is this possible?
I usually sing in the alto range and the highest i can hit is a g or an a. i want to get up to a c.
The best way to work on extension is to do simple vocal exercises in ascending and descending patterns. Start by singing them only to your highest "good" pitch then as you warm up more try singing a half step or whole step higher with each set of exercises. There are some good exercises at http://www.vocalist.org.uk/ . The key is to only do these for 15 or so minutes 2 or 3 times a day if possible. DO NOT force your self to go higher than your voice can handle at the time. "Screeching" can cause more harm than good to the cords. It really all boils down to daily practice because the vocal cords, like any other muscle, need to be stregthened and conditioned constantly so that they can stretch and form muscle memory in order to sing in the head voice (higher pitches). Now, if you do all of this daily the odds are you will gain some pitches. But don't get discouraged if after a while you don'pt gain the C. Remember that not every voice is created to sing every high note…develop what you have and use it! Good luck!
