Tips, Tricks and Tools To Help You Sing!

How can I improve my vocals? (be able to hit a higher range)?

I’m a 17 year old girl and my vocal range doesn’t go very high. I have a decent sounding voice but I can never hit any high note, i only sing when i play guitar which i never do in front of people so no one ever hears me but i just find it very upsetting when i try to sing even a little high, just a little, and my voice starts to crack or it sounds like ive lost my voice and am whispering. even when i am talking in a normal conversation my voice will crack and its a bit embarrassing. I sound like a little boy who just hit puberty. I cant afford any vocal lessons but are there any videos online that might help or does any one have any tips or exercises that i can do. Id really appreciate it.

first of all, you should know that you have to use your chest voice. singing while you’re playing guitar is a bit different from just plain singing. if you try to sing loudly using what i will refer to as the "head voice" (basically a talking voice with treble and pitch changes) it will come out as more of a scream or a silly sounding gallop. if you breathe in deeply and feel it in your chest, you kind of put pressure on your chest, and then sing how you would normally sing, but the trick is just to keep pushing your air up and out. open up your throat. just sing it loud. if your voice gets high and starts to crack. there’s only one answer. MORE COWBELL. No, seriously though. just keep pushing as hard as you can, feel the passion!
