I've got a phone number here for a teacher – I'm already someone who sings alot, but would like to sharpen my skills. What do think?
Yes yes yes, a million times yes!!! I've been taking private voice lessons for over ten years now and it has proved invaluable to my carrer. A few suggestions, make sure you don't spend too much money. $25 for a half an hour is pretty average, once a week. No More than 175.00 a month, anything else is too expensive. Also, make sure that you know your teacher's qualifications and that you enjoy the teacher, this will make the lessons fun.
Decide what type of singing you would like to work on, musical theatre, Opera, Jazz, Pop etc. and make sure your teacher is experienced in this area. Lastly make sure this is something you really want to pursue. You will need to practice everyday, but if you love singing, as I see you do, you'll love to hear the progress in your voice and all the different songs you'll be able to sing. You'll probably get on your family and friend's nerves with the vocal excersises but they'll get used to it, and they'll eventually think it's cool that your a singer.
Explore, discover, enjoy and allow yourself to learn and grow. Who knows you may love it so much it may be a spiritual experience for you.
Afterthoughts: in order to keep your vocal chords healthy, don't scream, DO drink lots of water, stay away from too much caffeine, (I drink coffee so) and keep to a good sleeping regimine. This will keep you and your chords in tune.
Lastly, I promise i'll stop, when you get up, don't jump right into singing, start off humming. This will warm you up and stretch your chords. Think of them as any other muscle in your body. Your teacher will talk about shallow and deep breathing and diaphramatic singing so I won't get into that and
Ok, I lied one more thing, be careful when singing with the radio, remeber, the radio will always be louder than you are, don't strain.
Hope this was help full and enjoy your musical journey!!!
