Colleges that focus on vocal training?

Hi, so I am going into my junior year in highschool and have started to think about college ideas- I want to be very involved in music: vocal training, composition, etc. But also, I was thinking it would be wise to dual-major. If anyone knows of some schools, the help would be very appreciated! Don’t know if it matters, my grades are A’s, B’s, and one or two C’s. I’m looking for a school in New York maybe? Ideas would be great! Thanks.

If you’re specifically looking for a school in New York, there are plenty of places that have a strong vocal and music program as well as having other areas of study in which it’s possible to major in. Some very good New York musical schools that offer other academic areas as well include the University of Rochester (which includes the Eastman School of Music), New York University (the Tisch School there is probably the school you would apply to) and Columbia University. Also, for women, there’s Barnard College, which is Columbia’s all woman sister school. It’s more artsy and located right near Broadway and very good for aspiring artists or musicians. Students can take lessons at Juilliard and the Manhattan School of Music. And the best part is, Barnard women get the best of Columbia as well-the only difference is that I think they have a different administration, otherwise, you’re basically attending Columbia.

For outside of New York, there are plenty of options, such as Rice University in Texas, Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, and Northwestern University in Illinois.

Basically, get very good grades your junior year, and show these colleges that you’re very dedicated to music and you should be fine. Best of luck!
