I need a new song to sing in my voice lessons, can anyone help me?

3

I am a female singer taking voice lessons and i need a new song to sing. Please try for something relatively new and modern.
I know it’s not much of a guidline but do the best you can :) Thanks!

Check out KT Tunstall ‘Eye To The Telescope
‘The Best Of Etta James’, she can really belt ‘em out.
‘Janis Joplin’s Greatest Hits’ or one of Annie Lenox’s solo albums, Diva or Bare.
Don’t forget there is nothing wrong with making an old song your own…

Development of the Virtual Classroom and School

0

A school you can attend anytime of the day or night, Virtual Education will become the next reality. Will

On the advantages of virtual, text-based discussions:

“… In all my years of teaching classes, there are always some students in the class who are very hard to get to speak up. You can ask them a direct question, but basically, unless they are put on the spot, these students will not volunteer their own opinions in class, and I think that there are various reasons why people are reticent and don’t want to do that. Sometimes I think people are shy and don’t want to be put on the spot — all the conversation stops, and everyone turns to look at them. In some cases, students for whom English is not their first language, it really can be an intimidating thing to have to extemporaneously put together English sentences like that in a classroom environment.

In Virtual Classrooms,  that problem of students not participating in class discussions just totally disappeared. And when I thought about it, these reasons, these challenges of speaking up in a regular class went away in this environment. In Second Life, when you want to contribute something to the class discussion, you just go ahead and start typing it in your chat box, and nobody turns to look at you, even if they do notice that your avatar is doing the typing motions, they are not actually looking at you, it’s just your avatar, and your avatar is not doing anything embarrassing. When you are ready to enter your comment into the conversation, you just hit enter. And it doesn’t have that moment where everybody stops and looks at you. Your comment just goes right into the conversation, along with everybody else’s. So i think a lot of the anxiety that goes along with the public-speaking aspect of participating in class discussions, is just removed in this environment.

On the flip side, we didn’t have any trouble with students who dominate the discussion. There’s always been the phenomenon of the student who ends every sentence with a conjunction in order to not stop their comment, and you can do that as much as you like in Second Life, and it doesn’t stop anybody else from participating in the discussions. What’s nice about that is very frequently people who usually speak a lot in class have a lot of very good things to contribute, and it’s hard as a teacher to shut somebody down in order to make space for other students, especially if you do feel that you want to be encouraging of their interest and enthusiasm. And this just takes away that problem as well.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………….

“The idea that I would actually end up almost preferring to run a class in a virtual environment to a real-based environment, that was a huge surprise.”

It started in 1998 with website Groups.

Students could read stories and write online, and share lessons and activities with other schools and teachers around the world.

This was linked with epals. They created an extensive list of schools and teachers who were interested in connecting first for writing experiences for their students, and today in shared projects and linked forums and websites withepals, with their school and classroom links .

It went ahead with websites in early 2004, using first on-line lessons and online courses and activities. Websites began offering free lesson plans and Activity sheets, and became an online source.

The next step was Moodle, and student tasks on-line with journals, activities and projects.

Sitepals, Virtual heads, and talk-back features started with ALICE

I used my first Alice, who is still on my first English website

From here the start of using the voice developed with podcasts, recordings, and news and the ‘English Voice became the English Voice in Korea, then in China and now simply, “News and Views”

Suddenly the technology was there for the Online Classroom, and the start of the Virtual Classroom and the Virtual School    http://Activeenglishspeaking.com

Lessons are held on two platforms…wiziq and edufire

Lessons take place in a Virtual Classroom which has everything a real classroom has….a teacher, students, a whiteboard, a chatline and the sharing of file, images, and any other teaching tool and teaching aide. Classes can even be run by two teachers in a team situation.

Advantages:

You select your class, time and teacher and study when you wish. The lesson is also available for revision and replay, which is a feature the real classroom does not have.

Lessons can be one-to- one, or group. A teacher can take 100 or more students in one session. In China, the large classes often meant that students at the back do not get the same attention. Here all students get the same attention, and lessons can be replayed if needed as many times as the student wishes. The lesson becomes a students possession like a textbook.

The Lesson format is the same as a normal Classroom. The text is replaced by a Power Point. The lesson is read by the teacher with the students following the words like a Presentation. After the lesson, there is interactive activities using the whiteboard and student voice through a webcam and microphone. Students who are reticent, can practise the lesson in a replay, and listen to their own voices.

Student and Teacher tools…a computer with a microphone and a webcam.

Cost of the lessons…bulk lessons from $2.00 a lesson, and private lessons around $20-$30 a session. No insurance, no travelling, no being late for class, ( simply replay the lesson later and catch up on the part you have missed) and no building or maintenance costs, tasks, or issues. You simply enrol and take part in the lesson…at your leisure.

You can now learn anything online….free and paid lessons.

I am teaching English, but I will also be teaching Social Skills, Creative Writing and later, Art and Computer Technology, extending to a full School Day of as many hours as the student wishes to take.

You are invited to view the Free Public lesson and see how the Virtual Classroom works for yourself. The first lesson is on January 5th 2009 at 9.30pm Korean time (+8hours)

Will Virtual Education take over Real Schools?

With so many social problems and people resorting to Home Schooling their children, Virtual Education could well become the next generation.

With so much increased mobility and change of home and schools, here is one permanent security. You keep the same school and teacher, wherever you live and work, and when you travel, your school comes with you.

There is no bullying, no negative influences and no teacher student dissent. You stay where you enjoy and want to learn, and you learn at your own pace and own level o ability. You attend because you want to, and you are free to repeat lessons and replay the sessions you enjoy.

You can request the courses and lessons you wish to learn, at any level or stage, and you can move from class to class at your own leisure and pleasure. Learning becomes what you choose to do, and is Student Directed.

Welcome to the New World of Virtual Education. It is here to stay,  and can only get better. You and the Teacher is Reality in a Virtual Classroom and World.

How Baby Swimming Lessons Are Beneficial For Your Child

0

Precious moments; they are the ones that give life meaning. After all, life is not measured by how many breaths a person takes, but by the very moments that take your breath away. Having a child is one of these moments. For many of us creating life and seeing it enter the world all squirming and crying its beautiful voice for the first time is always a wonder of the world. You want to do everything in the world to make this child of yours happy and to give him every possible benefit in life. Have you ever thought about baby swimming lessons? No, I am not joking.

Even toddlers have the possibility to start their swimming lessons at a young and early age. Why is this important you may ask. Well I am here to answer that very question. More and more early child consultants are giving baby swimming lessons the thumbs up in this day and age for very, very good reasons. One of these reasons is that early swimming and being in the water helps you to bond your child with an activity and he or she will forever associated in their subconscious. Also, it helps with development and the progress of basic psycho-motor skills. It is also a proven that babies that get into the water at an early age also get the benefit of leaning how to walk earlier than those who do not partake in this activity.

While it can be explained due to an increased amount of activity the baby does in the water and greater physical activity that snowballs into a psychological effect for them to want to start walking. Child psychologists also affirm that many of the fears we have in adulthood also start to form when we are very young and the mind, especially the conscious mind is especially susceptible to experiences which can translate to a life long fear perpetuated by its hidden brother – the subconscious. Here we are discussing about the fear of water, which is said to affect almost 15% of the population of the world and it is an irrational and unnecessary fear that should be nipped at the bud. Introducing your baby to the water or a pool and being with him, holding him, protecting him will create the right mental associations for him to never fear the water.

Fear of the water can be a very socially debilitating and life-threatening ailment in adulthood and even cost him to miss out on many opportunities in life. You should never let this happen, especially to your baby and putting him in the water early means that he will never fear the water. It is also a good way to promote swimming, an activity which promotes a lean body and good overall health. As you can see there are many benefits for you to place your toddler in baby swimming lessons and the sooner you do so, the better. He deserves the chance to experience the next best thing to flight.

Correct Chin Placement

Correct Chin Placement

What are pure vowels? Simply stated a pure vowel is one that is produced in a way that the voice can maintain cord closure or “adduction” during phonation and can easily move between resonances from lowest note to the highest tone with little difficulty.

The Ah vowel. When vocalizing this vowel sound you want to create continuous compressions in the vocal cabinet and pharyngeal cavity through “coloring” the vowel as you ascend the scale or vocal phrase higher. Begin at a lower tone in your lowest notes pronouncing the “Ah” as in “father”.

As you ascend the scale or vocal phrase especially when approaching the “bridges” or Passagio, you want to go from an “Ah” in “Father” to an “Uh” as in “Other”. As you perform the vowel in this way, a relaxing of the larynx is maintained and the tone sounds transparent as you go higher. If you were to stay with the “Ah” as in Father on the way up, you would experience both tension and vocal cord disconnect.

In addition to the vowel shift, especially as you ascend the scale or phrase, you want to be aware of the shape of your lips, the conjecture of your head in relation to your spinal position and the position of the jaw and shoulders.

Correct Chin Placement You want your shoulders to be as relaxed as possible, not slouched, but relaxed in a natural position of rest. Imagine you’re sitting in a chair with a small child in your arms gently pulling your hands into a “cradled” position. This is how your shoulders should feel during exercise and performance as well.

Your lips should be in a semi-pursed position, in other words, slightly open as if you were about to speak the word “what”. Your head should feel as if it were “floating” or “feather light” resting gently on top of your spine. Your spine should be in a non-rigid position in line with your shoulder position and head. Your chin should be in a level position in line with your shoulders and the jaw should remain relaxed (see illustrations for proper chin placement).

Teenagers – what are you going to do with your life?

5

Teenagers have a very different view on life to adults. Adults
seem to want to stop you having fun. They are very quick to tell
you that you can’t do this or you can’t do that and that you
can’t be what you dream to be when you grow up and leave school.

Adults are partly right. They know that there is a cost to
living. They know that you have to find money to pay for food,
clothing and accommodation. And they ‘think’ they know that the
chances of you becoming famous, for example, are slim.

What do you want to do when you are older? Many teenagers tell
me that they want to be an actress, a doctor, a lawyer, a
motocross champion, a professional football player, a pop star,
a computer programmer, a pilot, a soldier, a racing driver or an
astronomer. Someone even told me they wanted to become a
magician.

Not many people tell me that they want to work in a hotel, work
in an office, pick fruit or vegetables, cook food, repair cars,
maintain roads or perform one of the hundreds of jobs that the
majority of people do each and every day to keep a roof over
their heads.

So what happened to all of those ‘everyday’ people, did they
have the same dreams as you?

Yes, most people dream of great things when they are a teenager
but very few go on to achieve them. What can you learn from them
that will stop the same thing happening to you?

The first thing that you need to appreciate is that success does
NOT just happen to you. There is a lot of hard work and effort
that goes in to every success story. You will not just stumble
across success, or become a pop star, simply because you want to
be one.

Speak to any successful person and they will all tell you the
same thing – you need to have goals. You need to know exactly
what you want, not just some vague notion about the ‘lifestyle’
that accompanies this dream. You need a main goal and also lots
of smaller goals – things that you have to achieve on the way to
achieving the big one.

You need to discover what skills or knowledge that you need to
be able to do the thing that you want to do. You need to find
out if there is a qualification that you need to have to gain
you entry into that profession.

If you want to be a singer it takes more than the ability to
sing. You are competing against thousands of other singers, many
of which have been singing from an early age and take lessons
with professional voice coaches several times per week. They
practice seven nights per week and already perform in front of
small audiences and enter talent contests as often as they can.
Are you doing this?

If you want to be a motocross champion it takes more than the
ability to ride a bike. You are competing against thousands of
other amateurs like yourself who have been riding motocross
bikes from the age of four and have been competing almost every
weekend for years. They really know how to ride a bike. They
have put in the time to develop and hone their skills and their
parents are fully behind them buying them the best equipment and
travelling to new meetings to put them up against faster riders.
These people are very fast. Have you put the same time in at the
same level?

I am not trying to put you off. I want you to wake up to the
fact that if you are not already practicing and competing at the
peak level of your dream activity then you need to start damn
quick or accept that someone else is going to live your dream
and not you.

What you need to do to become the person in your dream is to
work out the difference between your life now and what it is you
need to be the person in your dreams.

You need to work out what skills you need and how you are going
to achieve them. You need to work out what knowledge you need
and where you are going to get it. You need to work out where
you are going to find the time to do this and how it is going to
be paid for. You need to ask yourself if you are prepared to put
in the hard work and long hours that are required to get you to
where you want to be.

Many of the best actors and actresses in the country went to a
highly competitive stage school to learn their craft. Students
of these schools have to work long hours and extremely hard just
to survive, never mind stand out as a future star. But stage
school doesn’t even begin there. Entry to the best academies is
competitive and you need to prove to them that you have ‘what it
takes’ just to get in. You need to have been performing in plays
and stage shows prior to applying. You need to show that you
have a track record of excellence in acting. Can you prove this?

On your way to your dream position you need to LEARN all of the
things that will be necessary when you are in that position.

You need to work backwards from your dream and calculate all the
steps required to get to where you want to be. A lawyer, for
example, needs a law degree. Depending where you intend to study
places can be very competitive so you need to have good school
or college grades prior to getting in to university. Don’t think
that you can just turn on your school work in the last couple of
years prior to university – you need to work hard at school in
all your subjects, in all your year groups, to achieve the
required grades.

So, if you still want to live your dream and you are prepared to
put in all the hard work and effort to get you to where you want
to be then I wish you good luck.

But consider one thing, if you are not going to put in all of
this hard work or you mistakenly still think that it is still
just going to happen to you, what are you going to end up doing
to provide you with the money you need to live? Probably the
same thing as most people in their routine jobs.

Start to enjoy learning. Learn the things that you are
interested in. Find out how to improve your learning to make it
more useful to you. Become an expert in whatever field you want
to excel in. Set yourself some goals and start today.

Oh yes, and the person that told me that they wanted to become a
magician has now been making a good living that way for over 10
years. He has performed on more than one occasion to Prince
Charles, the future King of England. He has also performed for a
host of other celebrities and even topped the bill on New Year’s
Eve at the ‘6 star’ BURJ AL ARAB hotel in Dubai.

Live the dream

There is Only One God

3

I do not affiliate with any religion. For me, no one religion is enough by itself. The way I believe encompasses all that the various religions have to offer but goes beyond. God is not a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, a Hindu or any other religion; God is just God. He is everything! There is only one of Him and He doesn’t restrict His love to one sector of humanity. He is there for all of us regardless of how we perceive Him or try to define Him through religious dogma.

As far as I have determined, the eastern religions primarily see God as being universal and the western religions as personal. I think they are all right but none tells the whole story.

I believe in a universal God in that God/The Universe is everything, everywhere, above us, beside us, in us and in every living thing and everything that is. And we are all a part of this God entity who is pure spirit. This is also our natural state, as we are really spiritual beings who are temporarily using a human body in order to learn through having experiences here on earth. So I do believe in reincarnation, which is the eastern way, but I don’t believe it is a random event as some would imply. I believe we specifically choose to reincarnate at particular times in order to have certain experiences that are unique for each of us (and to meet up with certain people who will enrich our lives in various ways).

But as well as the universal God, I also believe absolutely in the personal aspect of God and have felt His presence on many occasions. Actually to some degree I feel His presence most of the time but on occasion very intensely. And although I have not heard His voice He has sent me many wonderful, awesome and enlightening messages by methods that cannot be explained by human logic. Although He doesn’t answer me in words, He has on many occasions acknowledged me with feelings. I might say “Thankyou God for …. this experience, this beautiful day …. whatever ….” and I have in return experienced the most intense feeling of love (spiritual bliss?). Never when I have an expectation of it happening though!

Just to add a little to that, I believe God to be the creator but not quite the way that people generally do. It seems to me that most people think that because God “created us in His own image” that He must have a human image Himself (but much bigger than humans). This is reinforced by various religions referring to God as “the Father”. But I think this is the wrong way round. God is pure spirit and doesn’t really have an “image” as such. (He guided Moses by a cloud in the day and fire at night.) So when He created us “in His own image” it was as spiritual beings like Himself. And He also gave us free will and with that free will we “decide” when to incarnate into a human body to learn the lessons we need to learn. To my way of thinking this makes perfect sense no matter whether you believe in one human life only or many (as I do).

Now you might wonder how I can believe in a God that is both personal and universal as you may consider them to be contrary to each other. Well my understanding is that it is all to do with dimensions. We live in a three dimensional world where 1+1=2, always has and always will. But our earthly laws do not apply in a multidimensional afterlife where 1+1 has the potential to equal infinity. So, I have already stated that God is everywhere i.e. 100% of all that is (the universal God) but He is more than that; He is also the “thinking part” of The Universe (i.e. the personal God). It’s sort of like trying to put two litres of milk into a one litre container; it makes no sense in a three dimensional world but in the 5th dimension and beyond anything is possible.

I believe that the personal aspect of God is very important in our lives. What is the point of God if you can’t pray or talk to Him? Meditating is a wonderful medium for self discovery and wisdom but it isn’t enough on its own (at least for me). I want a God I can talk to as well on a one-to-one basis. Without that there would be something very vital missing from my life!
