Looks like a lot of courses are being offered online nowadays. Some of these courses range from making your own solar panels to taking online singing lessons. Whereas you can contract a vocal instructor and enjoy singing of lessons in New York where you live, you can also enjoy online singing lessons. So what is the advantages of online singing lessons compared to hiring a vocal trainer to give you singing lessons in New York where you live? This one is easy to answer, getting singing lessons in New York where you live can be very cost prohibitive. Remember, a voice coach can charge for an hourly pay. Online courses are much cheaper. The question is, are these online courses worth the money in the end?? Here are some of the things that an online course must have. ? 1. It should include audio-visual components. Singing practice requires you to hear and see the instructions. It is not enough to have MP3s of instruction, you should have a visual element that will complement the MP3. All the samples you need to hear should be in the audio. The audio component should have no DRM and must be downloadable. These files should come with free updates during the release of new versions. ? 2. For offline reading, you must get a PDF that you can print. These files should always be up to date and can be updated by downloading a new version.? ? 3. In order to succeed, the online course should be fun. To engage the student, a good online course should have games. The fun games should also be allowed to update for new versions. ? 4. Great customer care service and customer support response should be included in every good online singing lesson. Some online singing lesson courses have forums where you can interact with the community and ask question from their friendly moderators.? ? 5. The vocal techniques and music theory of the online singing lesson course should be sound. You have to do your home work about the topic. ? The other advantage of online learning is that you can do it over and over again. Without paying you can’t repeat the lessons from a vocal coach. I am not saying that vocal coaches are not valuable, because they are. What I’m trying to expect is that you can opt for cheaper online alternatives for singing lessons.? ? Always do your research before paying for online lessons. Search for an online lesson and compare it to the list above and see how they stack up.

I’ve always loved singing, I was very passionate about it when I was little but nowadays I really only sing passionately when I’m by myself. I was in choir till about seventh grade, when I realized I can’t read music, and I haven’t had any kind of musical learning since then. So right now I’m basically left with raw talent. I have potential to be a pretty good singer but I don’t know anything about my voice or how to really use it. Basically, I want to make my singing as good as it can be, or at least polish it up.
I’ve been aiming for vocal lessons; I want in-person lessons, but I would also go for lessons online or on a DVD. I know there’s a huge variety of ways I could try this; so I want to go for what’s best suited to what I want to do and something that isn’t too expensive.

Simply… Singing lessons.

Depending on whether your still in school, the price can vary.

If your still in school, lessons are normally cheaper if you go through your school

If not, yes DVD’s would be good, but if you encounter a problem which the DVD doesn’t answer, it kinda leaves you at a dead end, so just look around for a cheaper singing teacher, maybe not a private teacher

By Robin Fisher Roffer

We all know the story. We’ve watched the classic movie over and over and had the cheery song stuck in our heads for days. (You’re hearing it now, aren’t you?) We’ve cheered on the plucky red-nosed reindeer and his companion Hermey, the determined elf with dental school dreams. Even as adults, we’ve delighted in the snowy North Pole scenes, shuddered at the Abominable Snowman, and rejoiced at our unlikely hero’s happy ending. But few of us have really pondered the meaning behind this little fable: that a fulfilling life means being yourself—(symbolic) glowing red nose and all.

There’s never been a better time to march to the beat of that proverbial “different drummer” who makes you you. And if you take a lesson from the most famous reindeer of all, you can make 2009 the year you turn your unique qualities to your advantage.

While Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer was made in 1964, its theme—that embracing your uniqueness pays off—is even truer today. In a global world where businesses (and employees) face a literal world of competition, where people meet their spouses via Internet dating services, and where everyone from hot celebrities to your Uncle Fred have MySpace accounts, fearlessly being yourself is the only way to distinguish yourself from the teeming masses.

Here’s how Rudolph and his pals channeled their own “fearless fish” to save the day on that foggy Christmas Eve—and how you, allegorically at least, can do the same in 2009.

Let your nose shine bright. Once it became apparent that Rudolph wasn’t like the rest of his peers, his well-meaning father devised a way to help him “fit in.” The mud-covered nose didn’t last for long, and when his true self shone through, the other reindeer immediately excluded him from the reindeer games. On the other hand, the pretty little doe Clarice told him his red nose was “much better than that false one you were wearing.” The point? Playing an “acceptable” role never works—at least not for long.

When you aren’t authentic, it shows. Instead of fitting in, you come across as dishonest and untrustworthy. Don’t downplay your ethnic background, or try to hide the fact that you’re gay, or maybe a country music fan in an office full of hip-hop listeners. Give the world a fearless representation of who you are and let the chips fall where they may. Chances are they’ll fall in your favor.

Don’t just longingly read your dentist book. Grab your (metaphorical) drill and get to work. Hermey is an elf. At the North Pole. Of course he should make toys, right? Wrong! Hermey wanted to be a dentist instead, and in the end, he found the initiative to pursue his dream. Taking the first step toward big life changes, especially those that go against the grain can seem overwhelming. But as fearless fish we see the need for those changes and we take a flying leap instead.

We all have dreams that we have been too scared to fulfill in our lives. Perhaps it’s a new career path, or finally going back to school. Or maybe you are living in a city that just doesn’t work for you. Make this the year that you finally change those things. You will be amazed at how many other things begin to fall into place in your life once you allow yourself to pursue the things that really make you happy.

Seek out your own Hermey and make friends. On the surface it may seem like a red-nosed reindeer and an elf who wants to be a dentist may not have all that much in common. However, it was Rudolph’s misfit mantra and Hermey’s outcast status that bound them together and helped them become an unstoppable force. Likewise if you’re a “fish out of water,” you should align yourself with others who are different or special in their own ways.

It’s important to find others that you can count on as allies and friends in your quest for success. No, you don’t need to hold out for a coworker pal who is also an immigrant from China—that’s probably unrealistic. But you might join forces with, say, another maverick who is trying to lead the charge for dynamic change within the company.

Find a boss like Santa. No one is suggesting that you find a job in a toy shop, or seek out a jolly leader in a red suit. Rather, seek out leaders or influential colleagues with the insight to recognize what you bring to the table. Santa used Rudolph’s difference to make him a great leader for his team. This is the type of person to look for in your organization who can help take you to the top.

Look for individuals who are creative and open-minded and put yourself in their path. These are the people who will champion your ideas and talents when the time is right. Rudolph was given the chance to save Christmas because he had a leader who could appreciate his unique talent. If you have been laid off, use this opportunity to make your next job one with the right kind of leadership. Your moment could be right around the corner—it just takes having the right people to help get you there.

Help the misfit toys in your own life. Rudolph and Hermey use their alliance with one another to overcome the odds and achieve their own happy endings. It would be easy to assume that the story stops there, right? Not for fearless fish. Just like Rudolph uses his influence with Santa to help the misfit toys find happy homes, you must advocate for others who need a helping hand.

Once you have begun to find your own way, use the leverage you have achieved to help others on their journey. After all, you were one of them at some point and it’s important to maintain the mentoring cycle. It’s not just a nice thing to do for someone else; it’s a catalyst for continued growth and positive energy for yourself, too.

Make sure you’ll go down in history. It may seem obvious, but the things that make you unique are of any good to you only if you use them. It’s easy to see the things that make you different as what keeps you outside the group at large. In reality, they are your own secret weapons. If Rudolph hadn’t used his nose to guide the sleigh through the fog, he would still just be an outsider to the reindeer community. Instead, he winds up the hero.

Being a fearless fish out of water means believing that you are not just taking up space but that your contributions are valuable. Cultivating this kind of confidence from deep inside of you will spur you forward more than anything else in life. So don’t apologize for who you are and what makes you different. Be bold, be creative, and put yourself out there. People who are different are often the ones who can make the biggest difference.

Of course, “be yourself” hardly seems like the kind of cutting-edge advice to build a life-changing New Year’s Resolution around. After all, everyone’s mother has said it a hundred times. But if you’re honest, you’ll admit that those two tiny words are tough to put into action. And that’s precisely why they’re so powerful.

So many people are terrified to be themselves. So when you decide to cut that inner rebel loose, well, people notice. They pay attention. And if you’ve always been the “hide your light under a bushel” type, attracting attention may be the best thing that ever happened to you. Be who you are, and just like our favorite holiday hero, you will be happy too. And that’s the only ending to your story that matters.

When we wonder what guitar tab we need to get to begin to make up our repertoire, we usually think only about songs we like. We know that our choice in music does not suck in the slightest but if we are going to be playing our guitar and singing for audiences we need to get used to the idea that our taste in music will not match what our listeners want to hear. We may even take a look at popular choices in songs and get the uncomfortable feeling that we might have to play songs that we do not like. One thing guitar players are famous for is standing on their principles and not compromising on what they are going to play. The other thing they are famous for is giving the audience what they want. So a mixture of these two attitudes is probably going to form in your psyche as you peruse your list of guitar tabs on the internet. While we are on the subject of lists of guitar tabs remember to pay a visit to your local music store or online merchant for ready-made collections of easy guitar tabs. You can find titles like “Popular Songs for Acoustic Guitar” or “CMT\’s 100 Greatest Songs of Country Music”.

One fact that has emerged from field tests conducted by buskers, night club performers and covers bands is that you should look for your repertoire in the songs of years gone by. Oldies are goodies. Another thing you should think about is whether or not you are an audience participation kind of performer. If you are still wondering about it one second after the thought enters your head, then you probably aren\’t. So stay away from songs that require you to yell, “Everybody now!!” or “Just the girls this time!”. Likewise if you play solo acoustic guitar and have a voice like Johnny Cash you might want to stay away from Led Zeppelin\’s “Whole Lotta Love”. But do not walk away from songs you enjoy just because they might not seem immediately doable.Remember Jose Feliciano\’s “Light My Fire” and Eric Clapton\’s unplugged “Layla”.

Of course what songs you choose is not going to matter much if you do not pay attention to how you sing and play the guitar. People pay to see performers who are better at something than they are. Which is where playing material that you like comes in. If you are playing a song that you consider to be a crowd pleaser but you personally think is a load of stomach chunks you give attention to the part the audience likes. You already know what that is. That is why you do not bellow, “Hello darkness my old friend” or shirk on the enthusiasm when you sing the line, “Welcome to the Hotel California”.

Okay so what we get out of all this is first, there are songs that crowds of people like and second, you can sing and play these songs in a way that highlights your particular talents. Now for a basic list of songs that have been known to please a crowd or two over a period of years:

Wild World by Cat Stevens

Imagine – by John Lennon

Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin

Catch the Wind by Donovan

Can\’t Help Falling In Love by Elvis Presley

Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks

Angie by the Rolling Stones

Everybody Hurts by REM

50 ways to leave your lover by Paul Simon

The 59th Street Bridge Song by Simon And Garfunkel

American Pie by Don Maclean

Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell

California Dreamin\’ by The Mamas and Papas

Knockin\’ on Heaven\’s Door by Bob Dylan

Mrs Robinson by Simon And Garfunkel

You\’re so vain by Carly Simon

Blowin\’ In The Wind by Bob Dylan

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison

I Walk The Line by Johnny Cash

Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton

Gloria by Van Morrison (or Them)

Hotel California by The Eagles

Behind Blue Eyes by The Who

White Room by Cream

Sex And Candy by Marcy Playground

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers

What Its Like by Everlast

Alison by Elvis Costello

Life By The Drop by Stevie Ray Vaughn

Melissa by Allman Brothers

Dead Flowers by The Rolling Stones

Seagull by Bad Company

Mediterranean Sundance by Al DiMeola and Paco De Lucia

Classical Gas by Mason Williams

This list could be much, much longer, but you probably already see songs here that you would never play in a million years so all I can say now is I hope this guide to essential guitar tab has been helpful.
