Ok, so I lost my singing voice years ago when I have surgery to remove my tonsils. After that operation I cannot carry a tune or a melody without my throat hurting. And I lost a lot of my range.
Well anyway, I starting back singing and I sound horrible because I recorded my singing. My voice is ok, but I suspect that it is my breathing and other trivialities that is messing up my singing sound.
I was wondering if I could teach myself how to sing without a vocal coach because frankly I will be scared to sing in front of other people because I sound horrible.
Well, can I teach myself how to sing, with hearing my mistakes with a voice recorder?
I think your safest choice would be to find a vocal coach to help you. It doesn't matter if you think you sound horrible–a teacher's job is to help you improve. A voice teacher would know a lot about the throat and voice to pinpoint what's wrong and help you with exercises and prevent you from hurting yourself. Just to be on the safe side. It wouldn't be good to damage your throat again. Good luck!
